Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman should have have a “trigger warning” sticker on the cover. A baby bird hatches from his egg and doesn’t see his mom. He proceeds to ask a series of other animals if they are his mom. Not cool, P.D. Eastman.

Moms of preemies have to surrender their tiny babies to the care of others.

I had to believe that my baby knew his mommy. His eyes would get big when I held him- right before he’d go to sleep on my chest. I took that as evidence that he knew who I was. I have no idea if he actually knew it was me when I held him, but I couldn’t bear to think that he might believe someone else was his mother.

Babies know their mommies! Don’t listen to P.D. Eastman, mommies!!
